The Vampire Diaries is an splendid form of entertainment. And if you love it as much as I do, then you wil love some of the following TV-shows, Movies, Books and Animes.

Elena and her brother Jeremy lives in Mystic Falls with their aunt Jenna. Jenna moved in as their guardian after they lost their parents. At her first day back at school after her parents death she meats Stefan, a mysterious new guy. What Elena dos not know is that Stefan is an old vampire. They gradually grow closer, until Stefans`s older brother, Damon, shows up and acts like an evil bastard.

TV

Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer-TV.jpg

“In every generation there is a chosen one… she alone will stand against the vampires, the demons and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer”. Buffy, a sexy kick-ass high school girl, is her generations chosen one. Destined to slay vampires, demons and other infernal creatures, while still trying, and failing, to be just a “normal girl”. Luckily for her, she is not alone in her quest to save the world. She has help of her group of friends, the hilarious evil-fighting team called “The Scooby Gang”.

I remember watching this when I was young. I watched it on TV, so I missed some episodes, but it still was really good. I plan to get it some time in the future an rewatch the whole series. I remember having a teen crush on her so maybe my opinions are flavoured by that.

Both are teen shows about vampires. But Buffy is more kick-ass than Elena.

Moonlight-TV-2007.jpg

Mick St. John is a private eye and a vampire. He was turned into a vampire over fifty years ago. A case he is working leads him to Beth Turner, a reporter and a human woman. Mick feels romantically attracted to this woman, but no matter how tempting, he knows that a vampire-human romantic relation is to dangerous.

This is a truly excellent series. I cant fathom why it got cancelled after only one season. Some of the higher ups in the TV business must have a screw loose.

Both are shows about vampires. But Moonlight is not primarily for teen age girls.

True-Blood-TV.jpg

Sookie Stackhouse works as a waitress at Merlotte’s, a bar in a Bon Temps a southern town in the states. On day she meats Bill Compton, a 173-year old vampire. Vampires are outed to the world, and they try to be accepted as regular humans by drinking True Blood, a synthetic blood. Sookie`s life gets seriously complicated when she gets involved with the supernatural world, but Sookie is not an ordinary person herself either. She has the ability to read thoughts. True Blood is loosely based on the book series Southern Vampire Mysteries.

This is an excellent TV show. Te story separates it self from the books after the first season, but that’s OK. You should watch this show.

Both are shows about vampires and based on books. But True Blood more oriented toward an older audience.

Blood-Ties-TV.jpg

Vicki Nelson is a Private Investigator that teams up with Henry Fitzroy, a vampire. Together they investigating odd paranormal crimes around Toronto. In between all the crime solving a love triangle drama is slowly growing between her former partner and ex-lover Detective Mike and her new vampire partner.

Both are shows about vampires and based on books. But Blood Ties are more like a crime show.

The-Originals-TV.jpg

The Original is a A spin-off where we follows the original vampire family, from The Vampire Diaries. They are known as the first vampires and the ancestor to all existing vampires.

I find this spin-off to actually be better than the original series. The reason for this is probably that it is not as teen focused as the Vampire Diary.

Roswell-TV.jpg

In Roswell we follow teenage alien living in Roswell. They attempted to blend in and live as humans while hiding their alien sides.

I remember I really liked this show. A mix of teen age problems and sci-fi.

Teen-Wolf-TV.jpg

Scott McCall’s life changes forever when he is bitten by a werewolf and becomes one himself. Some changes are positive, like strength, super-hearing and a super healing. But there are problems and dangers that come along with being a lycanthrope, both from other werewolfs and other creatures, but also from werewolf hunters.

I like it. I think it is better than the more popular show Vampires Diary. If you like other teen paranormal shows then you will most likely like this one to.

Teen Wolf is not about Vampires, but about werewolves. They however have some of the same feel to them. Probably because both are oriented on a teenage audience.

Movie

Twilight-Movie-2008.jpg

When Bella Swan moves to the Forks, a small, cloudy and rainy town in Washington, she meets Edward Cullen. Her life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she discovers that the beautiful Edward is a vampire. They becomes lovers, but what Bella doesn’t realize is the closer she gets to him, the more she is putting herself and those around her at risk. Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires.

Twilight is an OK movie. Not too good, but not too bad either. It`s probably only worth watching if you like this kind of movies.

Both Vampire Diaries and Twilight is about vampires and orientated toward teenage girls.

Book

Twilight-Twilight-Saga-1-by-Stephenie-Meyer.jpg

When Bella Swan moves to the Forks, a small, cloudy and rainy town in Washington, she meets Edward Cullen. Her life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she discovers that the beautiful Edward is a vampire. They becomes lovers, but what Bella doesn’t realize is the closer she gets to him, the more she is putting herself and those around her at risk. Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires.

Twilight is the first book in the Twilight Saga. I remember I liked the books, but they are not good enough for a reread. That might be because I am both the wrong gender and above the target age.

Both Vampire Diaries and Twilight is about vampires and orientated toward teenage girls.

Glass-Houses-The-Morganville-Vampires-1.jpg

Claire Danvers is a way above average intelligent 16 year old girl that has got advanced placement to collage. Her parents do not allow her to go to the distant Ivy league school of her dreams so she ends up at Texas Prairie University instead. She moves in to a house called the Glass House with three other outcast students. Goth girl Eve, rebellious Shane, and Michael, a vampire.

The Morganville Vampires is kind of good to be a teen age girl paranormal series. I did stop after a few books, but that was only because there where no more books at the time. I have no plans of taking it up again.

Both Vampire Diaries and Morganville Vampires is about vampires and orientated toward teenage girls.

Vampire-Academy-Vampire-Academy-1.jpg

There are two races of vampires. One, the Moroi, are alive and wield elemental magical. The other, the Strigoi, are undead and evil. Rose Hathaway, a half vampire, is a bodyguard in training for her firend Lissa Dragomir, a Moroi princess. They go to St. Vladimir’s Academy, a hidden boarding school where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them.

Vampire Academy is actually a quite good teen paranormal romance book. I have actually red all of them.

Both Vampire Diaries and Vampire Academy is about vampires and orientated toward teenage girls.

Dead-Until-Dark-Southern-Vampire-Mysteries-1.jpg

True Blood, synthetic blood, has made it possible for the vampire community to reveal its existence to humans. Sookie Stackhouse is a twenty something telepathic waitress from Bon Temps a small town in Louisiana. She saves Bill Compton, a vampire and a Civil War veteran, from Rattrays, a couple of drainers. They where trying to steel his blood for its accelerates healing, increases strength, and improved libido. Sookie and Bill soon becomes an item, and Sookie get dragged into the world of vampires and other supernatural beings.

This is a good book series. I have not read all of them, I fell of when I at the time had read all of the available books. No sure if I am going to start it up again, but I might do it.

Both are about vampires.

Anime

Blood-Anime.jpg

Two groups have bean at war for ages. The immortal bloodsucking monsters called Chiropterans and an organisation known as the Red Shield formed to track down these monsters and kill them. Saya Otonashiis a high-school girl who lives a peaceful life with her family. She sadly suffers from amnesia and can’t remember the past year of her life. One day her happy life is destroyed when a man gives her a katana and she finds herself fighting Chiropterans.

Blood+ is a good anime that any anime fan should watch. People new to animes can also try this one out.

Blood+ has vampire like monsters, but it is more bloody and brutal than The Vampire Diaries.

Do you agree? Anything else you think should be on this list?

  • Thank you for including my review of The Vampire Academy! As a fan of The Vampire Diaries, I can definitely see other fans enjoying that series as well ūüôā

    • Haw you seen the movie adaptation of The Vampire Academy. It kind of sucks compared to the books, but it is still worth watching if you like the books.

  • I’ve never heard of Blood Ties, so I’ll have to see if it’s on Netflix. I loved Moonlight! Definitely someone had a screw loose who canned it! The BBC Being Human was good for the first few seasons too, until two of the main characters left. (But since one went to be a dwarf in the Hobbit I can’t really blame him) I liked Roswell too! ūüôā

    • Blood Ties is worth a try. Not among the best shows, but worth watching.

TIL: Aidan Turner went from Michael in Being Human to Kili in the Hobbit.
